OK, it’s Friday evening, it isn’t raining now, but did it rain last night! Well, I was told it did, because I am a very sound sleeper, so I didn’t actually hear, see, or experience (hold that thought, it will come in handy later) the rain after about 10:30 last night.
We were prepared for the Category 5 Storm they were predicting (Has anyone figured out who the THEY are yet?). Again, I’m not sure if it arrived here or not as I chose not to wait and greet it or welcome it. Not because I didn’t want it to come here, we needed the rain desperately! I was just more tired than willing to catch the storm when it arrived. I was told it was coming, and figured I would discover if it made it in the morning. And that is exactly what happened, it arrived without my help. It dropped about 2+ inches of rain (without my help), and moved on it’s way. You guessed it, without my help!
In many ways this week has been filled with DRAMA! It didn’t begin that way, it began as any other ordinary week begins, with Sunday. As far as I recall there was nothing very dramatic about Sunday. Started nice and slow and easy, and the next thing I know it’s Monday morning and I’m wondering where Sunday went? I was sure we had one, I remember waking up and noting it was Sunday, then it was gone!
Now comes Monday, you may be thinking this is where all the DRAMA begins. Actually, I don’t recall anything very dramatic about Monday, either. It sort of went the way of Sunday. It was here, then it wasn’t! Then it was Tuesday, and I’m still looking for Monday! The reason I needed Monday was I needed my medical insurance to approve a surgery already scheduled. So whipping through the days wasn’t helping my “naturally calm and light demeanor”. Let’s skip that the days are zipping by way too fast for my liking, considering at my advanced age I have less of them to go blazing by! I’m not being morbid, or anything, but reality does demand I recognize at least two-thirds of my life have rocketed by already. And I would prefer they slow down just a little. So far they the days, aren’t listening!
It was about Wednesday when life did begin to liven up a bit. Here I bet you are thinking is where the DRAMA begins. Not exactly, at least not for us. It did for some others, some very close to our hearts. But on Wednesday was when I received the Call! You are absolutely right, that Call, however it was rather anti-climatic. What I mean is, the call came confirming my 10:00 am Friday appointment for the surgery. I decided to hazard a guess and see if they had the authorization yet. The Scheduler was surprised I even asked as it was obvious it had been or there would be no need to confirm a surgery time and date. Go figure!
Remember I suggested you hold the thought about my not actually hearing, or seeing, or experiencing the huge rain last night? How often do I not see, or hear, or experience the huge things God does in my life, for my life, and through my life? How often do I anticipate DRAMA and it never arrives, or I am so sure my moment, my minute, my hour, my day, my week has been filled with DRAMA only to discover there is no drama let alone DRAMA in capitals!
I mentioned some friends who actually had DRAMA in their lives this week. And even with the massive DRAMA they had, God revealed Himself larger than any DRAMA, or drama. This doesn’t mean we don’t experience the pressure, the fear, the worry, the futility, the absolute hopelessness that often accompanies DRAMA and drama. It does mean we can know we never go it alone. God isn’t put off by our feelings, He expects we will have them. He created us, so who knows how we operate when our feelings kick into overdrive better than Him?
It’s not God put off by how we respond to all the Stuff! It’s us, we do! We end up tying ourselves into knots worrying about how we thought, what we thought, what we said, what we didn’t say, on and on and on we go literally creating DRAMA where God is seeking to create PEACE! Personally, I suggest getting out of God’s way, besides who wouldn’t want PEACE rather than DRAMA or drama?
On a night about 2000 years ago give or take a winter or spring, a group of Angels burst into song declaring “Peace on Earth, Good will to Men”. I’ll take that, how about you?
