Well, Gracers, here we are at the end of another week and the beginning of another Rest Day! It has always intrigued me God supplied a day of rest before humanity had taken its tumble from Grace. I found myself contemplating why it was God decided Perfect Man and Woman needed a special day of rest. How about you? Have you ever wondered what the purpose of The Rest Day was in a Perfect World? I have decided there is an answer. The purpose of the Rest Day in the Beginning, the Present, and the Future is all about Relationship.
Even before the enemy entered this world God had already put Adam through the learning process. This process concentrated on developing the awareness that Men and Women need relationship. It’s a powerful picture, God giving Adam a project, Adam naming every animal in the Garden. As Adam was meeting this responsibility it dawned on him he alone had “… no suitable helper.” (Genesis 2:20 NIV) There it is from the very beginning, humanity was created for relationship with our Creator and the Special One God creates for us, and then we have the gift of friendship with all who God brings into our lives!
Through His amazing Grace God provided the Rest Day for all His Children to have the opportunity to be sought out and to seek out those who will be the life changers in our lives as provided by God’s Grace! The Rest Day, Sabbath is all about relationship as it is defined by God, as it is provided by God. This day of resting offers intense opportunities to develop to the fullest all God desires for us and those we love! It is the physical representation, the manifestation of living in the present with all who have an impact on our lives. And then in His infinite Love God pursues us to the very depths of the deepest, darkest caverns of our souls! While doing this He also spares us from seeing just how black is our soul.
It is Grace making all the difference as it infiltrates our being in ways we aren’t even aware! As you have the opportunity in the next twenty-four hours, consider what it is God has given to you in this most Special Day of all days. Let the knowledge that God’s Love for you is such that He wants you to be all that! He plans for you to be all that! God provided for you and me a day so special it will be with us throughout Eternity! And it makes sense because it’s all about continuing the building of relationships, because relationships will be with us for Eternity!
