To find joy in the presence of holy and good, of all that You send me, Lord; this is my prayer today.
Sometimes the best we can do is adopt the attitude of choosing joy in God’s presence. These are the days when joy doesn’t come easily, when we work to manage the small things. Today has been a mixture of being versus accomplishing. It’s not quite the same as being versus doing.
So many important things were on my list to accomplish, yet only a couple of them have been done. Unscheduled visits and alternate priorities took the hours pre-planned. Choosing to perform the task has been my mantra for most of my life and it takes an effort to redirect my deep rutted habits. Efficiency was the praise and label, the high bar to jump and it became my measure of value.
Efficiency = Value?
Too much time has been wasted on doing, and these past few years I’ve been learning to be. I’ve been learning to find value in time spent with rather than time doing. Perhaps it comes down to how I’d like to be known. I’d like to be known and to know. I am making the choice to find joy in the presence of God, of people, of the pleasures of living.
Hours passed finding joy in the presence are truly an accomplishment and twice gifted, once for the time itself and once for joy.
You will show me the way of life,
granting me the joy of your presence
and the pleasures of living with you forever.
