“They saw him from afar, and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him. They said to one another, ‘Here comes this dreamer.’ “ Genesis 37:18-19
There have been times in my life when I desperately wanted to know the future. Especially as life was crumbling around me into piles of rubble. When everywhere I looked I saw only loss and pain and nothingness. It has been at those times when I deeply desire to know what could possibly be the next disaster?
Sadly, I never expect something glorious and amazing to rise like a phoenix out of the ashes of my life. Very sad, really! It is another reason I am so thankful for God’s Grace and His process of Grace in my life.
It is in His Grace Process that the way I experience all of life is being transformed. Day by by day and moment by moment, my world view is transforming into a Jesus World View.
It just is not an easy or painless process. As it is never easy to heal from a disease that is trying to destroy you, so it is with the enemies world view. The tentacles of self-centeredness continue to entangle, me first, me only, my fears, my prejudices, etc., all the things that war against the Kingdom of God! They all have to go and God has pledged to do whatever it takes, even being accused of horrible things, as He brings healing into the lives of His children.
This is the place Joseph is about to enter one of the dark nights of the soul is about to descend on him and his life will never be the same again. What Joseph doesn’t know is the end of the story! Unlike us, he didn’t get to read to the end of his story and see how gloriously God used him. He didn’t know how his story would be told for millenium, or that countless millions would recieve encouragement and blessings from his story.
The hatred of Joseph’s brothers erupted to the surface, overflowing with the lava of evil, and pure destruction. Not one brother was thinking, not one brother stopped to consider what was said, they all embraced their hatred for this brother and let their emotions dictate their actions.
The reality is that God could have intervened. God could have nipped this whole thing in the bud, but God did not choose to change those circumstances for there were bigger issues, greater happenings dependent on the actions of Joseph’s brothers that day!
Again, we have the privilege of skipping to the end, we know how this story goes. It is easy to see how God acted in Joseph’s life doing amazing and incredible miraculous happenings!
But we can’t see the end of our story, or the story of someone we love, or the story someone we don’t even know. We want to know what is coming next; we try to read into the future. All we have is what we think we see, what we think we know, and what we convince ourselves and others must be, because what we see and say makes perfect sense! Makes sense to whom? Maybe we should ask ourselves, do you really want to know what comes next? Would knowing relieve our fears or bring more pain? Do you really want to know?
In reality, we know very little. All we can really know is what God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit tell us. And when there is no message, then we have to choose. Will we trust our Creator, the One Who loves us, the One Who experienced ultimate separation from God for us! Or will we listen to the enemy, the one whose only goal is to destroy your life, your family, your relationship with your Creator, the lover of your soul?
As always, God leaves the choice up to each of us. He leaves the choice to me, to you. Think about that! No force, no coercion, only Love drawing, alluring us into the most passionate, intimate relationship anyone can ever have!
All the enemy offers is the destruction of lust, the destroyer, Self-gratification! And he doesn’t let you choose, he traps, forces, beguiles, lies, leads into the depths of self-destruction.
Remember, God never leaves us alone, He is always with us in every possible experience of our lives. No matter what I think, or see, or feel He is with me, always.
He promised, and He never lies!
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV
“…because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ ” Hebrews 13:5b NIV
