“Your life will not convince those around you of the reality of Jesus if you cannot live in unity with your fellow Christians.” Experiencing God Day by Day by Henry T. Blackaby and Richard Blackaby
I wonder how often, rather than concentrate on what Jesus intended for us to know, we choose to look elsewhere for confirmation of our witness. Jesus made it quite clear in John 17 what it would take to convince the unbelieving world of who Jesus was and Who sent Him.
It wouldn’t be based on miracles, who was most eloquent, who the greatest apologist might be, what group declared loudest that they were the only arbiters of Truth!
Jesus declared the world would know that He had been sent by the Father when the disciples of Jesus displayed love for each other. In this prayer of declaration, also known as Jesus High Priestly Prayer, Jesus makes it clear He desires us to experience oneness in each other as the Father and Son are one, and we would all be one in Them, each of us bound to the others in a oneness seeking the Oneness only found in the Father and Son!
Consider, what then would this do to the ministry of the Christian church today? What might be the outcome if we prayed for the Unity of Jesus the Son and God the Father to be ours! Could we then allow our self-centered, self-righteous, God Complexes to begin to be transformed, recreated, reconciled through Gods Grace? And if all of this is possible then what is holding this wondrous reality form happening?
There really is a simple answer, me and you, we! As for Ron Gerking, I’m one of the millions of factors that have been causing a bottleneck in the ability of this witness to become all it is needed to be! We are still the ones needing to be convinced that God’s Grace is everything He tells us it is. We appear to be the ones caught up in everything except what is our responsibility.
What is our responsibility? I’m glad you asked! Jesus told us to Love our neighbors as ourselves and to Love God with every fibre of our being! And this is only realized in anyone’s life through the ongoing amazing Grace of God. The Holy Spirit convinces us daily of our need of a Savior, He leads us to make our confessions before the Father, receiving forgiveness for our desire to unseat the Creator God. In this process we begin to love who we are because He loves who we are! We also understand we cannot stay where we are emotionally, spiritually, mentally, or even physically.
These unfolding truths bring into our being the love for our neighbors so desperately needed in todays world. It is a love only made real in us by the indwelling God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. A chain reaction of healing begins touching every avenue of our lives, building exponentially, and carrying healing into all the relationships we could ever imagine, finding completion in Jesus Christ.
Will you join me in praying that finally Jesus prayer in John 17 would be our reality and truth? With all that is vying for our attention, maybe simply praying for this prayer to be finally answered will be enough! I don’t know, but I’m willing to try.
“I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. 21 I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.” John 17:20-21 New Living Translation
